Jens Peter de la Fuente. (Lyngdrup Madsen)
“An artist must cross the threshold of the studio and the stage, to place himself in his
work at the edge of chaos where, as we know from physics, the flow of energy and the
existence of opportunities for transformation and change are the greatest.”
Dancer, choreographer and teacher, born in 1959 in Dorf, Denmark. Jens Peter de la Fuente has worked with
research into body, mind and spirit the past 27 years.
From modern dance to yoga, Qi Gong and Stanislavski; the past 22 years with focus on
expanding the physical training, techniques and philosophy behind the concept
“Japanese” butoh dance.
In 1988 he founded “A school in Experimental Dance Theater butoh”, now the Academy.
In 1989 co founded, with modern dancer Isabel Isen, the "New Drama School" in Copenhagen.
An organization that provided studios and publicity for schools of dance, theater and mime.
Known for his free approach to dance/movement, insisting on creating possibilities
for the dancers to place themselves in the center of their own creativity, Jens Peter de la Fuente
has been a vital force in the international performance world
for over 20 years.
“When he trains his body, the dancer confronts his culture and the history of past generations
carried by the cells of the body. As they come alive through gestures and movements in the dance,
one might say, that, if the dancer is from Iceland, it becomes and Icelandic dance, or if he is
an aboriginal from Australia, it becomes an Australian dance.”
