Summer workshops are 45 hours including breaks.
5 days from 9am to 6pm.
Summer Workshop one: Simplicity in Expression
The theme for workshop one is simplicity in expression.
The workshop will be centred on "Stop emotion" or "Stop in motion", an ancient eastern concept of movement full of simplicity and beauty, at the same time elegant, strangely moving and expressive. Combined with Open Eye, a powerful technique where dancers learn to manipulate and control the small muscles in the eyes; a technique that enables the individual to move from the ego to the
centre where he gains a clearer feeling of originality and strength.
In combination with the potent Physical Training and the Manipulation/stretching system, the workshop will address choreographic principles, processes and structure in Butoh dance and movement.
This workshop is for professional dancers, athletes, actors and those who have experience
working with visual expression, are aware of body, space, time, rhythm, as well as presence
and move without hesitation.
Teacher: Jens Peter de la Fuente

About Physical Training and Manipulations.
Physical Training across the floor with emphasis on flexibility, balance, energy, rhythm, co-ordination, precision, centre, concentration, strength, stamina, grounding, breathing and consciousness.
The Physical Training is designed to bring the body to a more original form, closer to where it would be with a more balanced, more natural life.
In Butoh, all muscles are taught to be controlled: from the small ones in the eyes to the major groups in the body.
An efficient system of Manipulations that stretch, heal, and make the body more pliable follows the Physical Training. Developed by Chinese acrobats, the Manipulations give the dancer indications of where to let go and directions he could move towards.
Summer Workshop Two "Open Eye"
Expression through movements with the eyes, also called "Open Eye", combined with a more general introduction to Butoh Dance Techniques.
"Open Eye", one of the hallmarks of Butoh dance, a powerful technique where dancers learn to manipulate and control the small muscles in the eyes, expressing visual as well as verbal images, poems, paintings and the different energies humans perceive in colours and feelings. "Open Eye," a technique that enables the individual to move from the ego to the centre where he gains a clearer feeling of originality and strength.
The workshop will explore the energy in Empty Body, No Power, Big Force and contradictory energy/movement/imagination; go beyond the immediate personality to uncover deeper archetypical layers.
This workshop is for everyone who is interested in expression as well as a stronger physical presence.
